QD to Open New Store in Saffron Walden

QD to Open New Store in Saffron Walden

Following weeks of speculation in the town, the QD Stores Group has confirmed that it is to open a new store in Saffron Walden creating around twenty new jobs.

The retailer is about to undertake a major makeover of the town centre premises left vacant by Woolworths. The new QD store will offer shoppers a wide selection of quality brands at extremely competitive prices and will provide Saffron Walden and the local area with a much-needed shopping destination in a prime location.

QD's Marketing Operations Manager, Alan Hatcher, confirmed that work on the new store will start immediately. "Given that there is a significant amount of building work to be done in order to carry out a full refurbishment of the current premises and to maximise the retail space available, it is anticipated that the new store will open in late spring."  He added that there had already been a very positive reaction to the news from local residents. "As each new store opens experience shows that the presence of a QD store on the high street has greatly increased trade across the entire town centre and I'm sure Saffron Walden will prove to be no exception."

A finalist in the recent Oracle® Retail Week Awards 2010, for "Emerging Retailer of the Year", the QD Stores Group's continued and rapid expansion is largely due to its highly successful retail formula which offers exceptional value for money, an impressive choice of quality brands and goods, and the highest standards of customer service.

Saffron Walden's sizeable store will stock all of QD's key lines with the promise of unbeatable value. The vast range includes homeware, fashion for all the family, DIY essentials and even kitchen cupboard staples such as coffee, tea and sugar. Its location will bring the added convenience of being able to shop locally for a wide selection of goods and will draw customers from the surrounding area reducing the need for longer journeys and costly parking in larger towns such as Cambridge.

QD's stores offer a vast selection of quality goods at low prices. In-store, shoppers in Saffron Walden can look forward to great value clothing and accessories for all the family, household essentials and soft furnishings, along with everyday basics such as groceries and stationery.

The Group currently employs over 1,000 staff throughout its nationwide chain of high street shops, Cherry Lane garden centres, Buyright superstore in Suffolk, and specialist fishing outlet, Lathams, on the Norfolk Broads. The company plans to increase the number of its high street stores from 34 to 50 by the end of 2010.

The QD Stores Group - Background Information

The QD Stores Group is an independently owned chain of high street discount retail outlets primarily located throughout the East of England and the Home Counties with 2009 bringing the opening of eight new QD stores in prime high street locations across the country. Capping a year of rapid expansion comes QD's nomination as a finalist in the prestigious Oracle® Retail Week Awards 2010 within the category "Emerging Retailer of the Year".

Given its policy of providing shoppers with maximum choice, value and convenience, QD has seen a dramatic rise in footfall throughout its stores in the current economic climate. The company has announced its desire to increase the number of high street stores in towns and cities across the UK to 50 by the end of 2010. Ideally placed to bring its unique blend of quality brands and low pricing to the price-conscious consumer, QD plans to extend its reach into new demographic sectors of the market-place and is actively seeking additional retail premises in a number of UK locations.

By offering its customers the very best in value retailing, QD Stores' formula for success is based upon the rapid turnover of quality product lines pitched at a competitively low high street price point. Its pledge to provide unbeatable value and extensive choice permeates each trading division of the group which also includes the Suffolk superstore Buyright, Lathams and Cherry Lane Garden Centres.

With a range of around 40,000 product lines across 40 different departments, every item is carefully sourced to ensure that quality is never compromised despite an aggressive pricing policy. Outstanding value is achieved via special low price promotions, fast moving stock and meticulous daily price checks to remain keenly competitive.

QD stores offer market-leading product lines, the latest seasonal fashions and quality branded goods, all at significantly lower prices than available elsewhere. Consequently, everyday essentials are juxtaposed with higher end items, to make high street shopping both accessible and affordable.

The QD Stores Group also owns the following retail brands:

Buyright is QD's discount superstore situated in Hadleigh, Suffolk. It has a number of popular in-store retail outlets, including family clothing, china and glassware, homeware and linens, hardware, a garden centre and coffee shop. The outlet offers extensive choice, high quality and excellent value to customers.

Lathams of Potter Heigham was established over 30 years ago. A popular destination for both locals and visitors to the Norfolk Broads, the store is regarded as a must-visit emporium with its ever changing discounted product range. Lathams retail outlets can also be found within a number of QD stores, in Buyright of Hadleigh and in the Cherry Lane Garden Centre at Fritton near Great Yarmouth. It has established an enviable reputation, both in-store and on-line, for its expertise as a supplier of all types of fishing equipment, attracting river and sea anglers from a wide area.

Cherry Lane Garden Centres are located in Yorkshire and throughout Norfolk and Suffolk, representing a new direction for specialist horticultural and leisure retailing. As part of the QD Group, the garden centres are committed to offering unbeatable value across all product lines. Expert staff and buyers ensure that quality and stock throughout the year is consistently high. As well as a huge selection of plants, trees and shrubs, Cherry Lane Garden Centres stock extensive ranges of stylish garden furniture, quality gardening clothing and footwear, must-have gardening accessories, a wide selection of sheds and ornamental statues and gardenware.

The specialist Cherry Lane Aquatic Centre at South View, Fritton near Great Yarmouth, stocks a large range of fish, as well as indoor and outdoor aquatic accessories. The latter can also be found at the Pulham Market branch of Cherry Lane near Diss.
