QD’s Boston Store Announces 1st Anniversary Competition Prize Winner

Sugar was at the forefront of many customers' minds as they shopped at Boston's QD store and tried their luck in the store's 1st anniversary competition which ran between 21st July and 1st August. Entrants were asked to guess the number of 1kg bags of Tate and Lyle sugar sold by the store since it opened a year ago. The winning estimate came from Mr Mike Greavett who lives in Stickney, near Boston. He put the sales total at 42,846, compared with an actual figure of 36,024.

On hearing the news of his success Mr Greavett could hardly contain his delight.

"When I first looked at all of those bags of sugar in my local QD store then tried to work out how many might have been sold since the store's opening certainly had me thinking. There was no way I thought it would be me winning such a great prize.

"I'm delighted to have won QD's competition. I thought my estimate might be rather too high, but it seems shoppers in and around Boston obviously take an awful lot of sugar in their tea!"

Commenting on Mr Greavett's success in his estimate of sugar sales Leon Gregori, QD's Boston store Manager, said: "to come within a few thousand bags of the actual figure was an amazing achievement on the part of our winner. Mr Greavett is to be congratulated on his winning estimate and we all wish him the best and hope he'll really enjoy his perfect prize for the remainder of this summer and many more to come."

Mr Greavett is congratulated as he receives his prize of a Milton patio set from QD's Boston store manager, Leon Gregori, and is looking forward to relaxing and entertaining friends and family over the summer.

Boston was the fourth in a string of QD stores to open in 2009. The retail group, which also owns the Cherry Lane chain of garden centres, Lathams of Potter Heigham and the Buyright Superstore in Hadleigh, Suffolk, continues to go from strength to strength and has recently been listed among the top 75 retail businesses in the Eastern Daily Press Business Guide 2010.
