QD helps out Clacton disaster families An appeal to help families affected by the Clacton-on-Sea gas explosion of Monday April 2nd is getting a welcome boost from local retailer QD Stores.
”When I heard about the families who had lost their homes in the explosion I just felt we had to do something to help,” says Maria Jeffrey, manager of the value retailer’s Rosemary Road branch.
Maria and the staff at QD were particularly affected by the plight of Clarel Sainte-Marie, his pregnant wife Laura Sainte-Marie, and two young children Gaelle and Nigel, who managed to escape the blast with only minor injuries. Maria and the team were gladdened to meet Mr and Mrs Sainte-Marie when the couple came into the store this week to accept a donation of £100 in vouchers redeemable at the store on behalf of survivors of the explosion. “They are such lovely people showing great resilience at a very difficult time and we are very glad as part of this community to be able to help them,” says Maria.
