Staff from Local QD Store Star in TV Advertisement

Two members of staff from QD's Anglia Square store plus another from its head office in Norwich are to feature in a brand new TV advertisement promoting the QD Stores Group.

Store Manager, Amos Bailey, Supervisor, Corrina Vargerson, and Tracey Robinson, who works in the merchandising department based at head office, took part in filming after the fast expanding retail group concluded that no-one was better placed, or more able to match the genuine enthusiasm of its own team in promoting QD's core brand values, than the staff themselves. It therefore decided to hold internal auditions for the commercial which resulted in Amos, Corrina and Tracey all being selected to appear.

The commercial was directed by Andy Devonshire, who has worked on a number of popular TV shows including Top Gear, Comic Relief and The Apprentice, and produced by "Commercial Breaks", a company which works closely with ITV in Norwich.

Whilst the sheer numbers and media hype may be the exclusive domain of X-Factor auditions, QD's search for its own screen stars was greeted with equal excitement when the idea was announced to staff. Hopefuls were required to undergo a rigorous screen test, as well as carrying out a role play, to determine which candidates were the most natural and telegenic in front of the camera.

QD's Marketing Operations Manager, Alan Hatcher, was keen to explain why QD chose to go down this particular route whilst most retailers tend to use actors in their commercials. "We're lucky to have such an extremely dedicated team throughout our stores, many of whom have worked for the company most of their working lives and have an excellent rapport with customers.  As the very best ambassadors for the company, it made perfect sense to use our own staff to put across the message that "Great Value Feels Good". During filming everyone definitely demonstrated the Feel Good factor and it transpires that some may even have the X Factor too! The public will be able to judge for themselves when the commercial airs later this month."

QD's stores from across the country were well represented in the auditions with a final shortlist of 14 members of staff who travelled from their local stores in Ipswich, Wellingborough, King's Lynn, Norwich, Hadleigh in Suffolk, Gorleston, Newmarket and the Norfolk Broads, to film the commercial at QD's recently opened Bishop's Stortford store

Corrina confirmed that taking part in the process had been a great experience. She was delighted to be appearing on national TV. "To get the opportunity to see behind the scenes of a TV shoot was really interesting. I was quite nervous at first, but once in front of the camera I felt surprisingly relaxed and it all seemed very normal just as if I was talking to a customer."
